Gone are the days when companies could screen their applicants. Are applicants now sifting?
We take a look at this question from a different angle.
It is probably true that there are generally more vacancies than applicants.
However, there are also jobs that were previously unattractive for jobseekers and could not be filled so easily.
In addition, many things, especially in the technical field, are becoming increasingly complicated and specialized.
There is little that can be done about these facts - things will remain as they are.
A simple solution could be: Companies are turning. Shoo, shoo - solutions can be so beautifully simple!
Now let's see if there really is something to it.
What motivates people? Why do they feel addressed?
Let's not look at the job advertisements for top manager or top specialist positions
of the first international league, but those of the district and national league, i.e. the absolute majority of the total weight.
And let's also leave pay out of the equation. Those who are only concerned with earning as much as possible,
there's not much imagination and fuss needed. But the question must certainly be asked here,
how long will this prospector stay?
As a rule, the following points will certainly be important when applying.
In over 50 percent of cases, the location criterion is a key pre-filter.
- Is the new position close to my current place of residence or easily accessible from there or in my preferred location/region?
- If a move becomes necessary: Will I receive support in finding accommodation?
For many people, moving to expensive cities without the prospect of an affordable apartment of their own is certainly an absolute knock-out criterion.
However, this situation improves the position of companies that are located in the surrounding areas of such cities and can therefore score points.
- For companies in scenic surroundings, it certainly makes sense to wave it around.
Then there are the personal interests, strengths and passions,
which are also partly shaped by your own family situation - single, married, children.
The following points are certainly important in this context:
- Certainly important for families: family-friendliness of the company and the location.
- The desire for flexible working hours and home working is increasing.
- The desire to develop professionally and contribute your skills can be important criteria.
- There are also passions and preferences for industries and topics - for example: Environment, AI and fashion.
- Then the opportunity to take on responsibility and organize or manage areas independently.
- Some are very interested in the international dimension of their work.
- And some also like to travel in a professional context.
Companies can also draw attention to themselves with the following points:
- Collegial working environment and a positive corporate culture.
- The form of address in the job advertisement: you or you. However, this should be authentic to your own corporate culture.
- Family business and manageability or degree of recognition and size of the company.
- Innovative products and services or forward-looking projects.
- Startup and opportunities.
These are all points that, when used correctly
and together should result in an appealing picture that also corresponds to reality.
When it comes to the requirements in job advertisements, it is certainly a good idea
to check whether the requirements and expectations are possibly too high or even too high to be off-putting.
If this is the intention, then it is okay, but otherwise it is counter-productive.
How it is formulated is also important. Cold and formal or with a certain
friendly tone and inviting openness - that may make all the difference.
Some hints can certainly change entire CVs, for example: Career changers welcome!
